You’re listening to Southie Heights Presents Jagger Hicks.
Now, your host: Jagger Hicks!

JAGGER: Hello, hello, hello again! This is Jagger Hicks for the Southie Heights Presents podcast. Episode 2. Dos! It’s been a week. How have you been? Did you miss me? I sure missed you! Now episode 2 was supposed to take place over the weekend, but things had to be postponed until now and episode 2- which literally was gonna be a whole different concept - is gonna now take place this coming weekend. So therefore, that’d be episode 3- if you’re, y’know, counting. Um, I hope you enjoy what I’m gonna be talking about today, what we’re doing today. If not, I’m sure there’s a lot of other things you can listen to, or watch, or take part in. You choose what you wanna do. I’m here just for your listening pleasure. And hopefully that does something for you, and it’s enough for you. If not, I understand! My voice, eh, it’s like, hey, it’s like, it could be inviting, but at the same time it’s, like, annoying. It’s got- you like- you’re saying to yourself, “This dude’s got a weird accent, where the heck is he from?” Trust me, I understand, I get it. Sometimes the accent changes, I don’t know where it’s going. But right now, let’s try to be focused on what we’re gonna talk about today. Does that sound okay with you? Sure, sounds good to me.

Now, last episode we were discussing, um, the band Vices Inc and their new release Rolling ‘82. Played a few cuts from them, and, um, y’know, it was- it was fun, it was a hoot. We had our guest, Atticus-- he’s our producer too, by the way-- and um, it went well. And this week, I’m gonna change it up a little bit. I’m still gonna play a couple songs from Vices Inc because we didn’t get to really finish that EP, um, ‘cause time restraints. So I do wanna play a couple songs from them still, but also discuss other things. If that’s okay with you, if not, that’s okay. Send me an email, we can discuss it after the fact, uh huh! Okay, so, if you’re not really aware of what’s going on in the world, maybe you should, I mean there’s a lot going on right now, and it’s something that we all should just be educated on and maybe just try to y’know help find a resolution and a solution to the problem. So right now, there’s a lot going on in Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and Haiti, it’s just… there’s a mess going on in the world. I mean, people are gonna say all the time, like: “Oh, there’s always a mess.” But really, it really is a mess right now. And all you gotta do is just educate yourself, y’know it’s not about, uh, y’know, what I’m gonna say or whoever else is gonna say something. I think it’s just, you need to educate yourself and come to a conclusion about everything on your own. Y’know, obviously, people can just easily read something or see something online or whatever and maybe get the wrong impression of what’s going on. I just wanna say, listen, just educate yourself and- and understand it’s more than just us out there, and as difficult as we all have it -- I mean we all have it rough sometimes, right? I mean maybe, y’know, we’re dealing with problems in different ways, y’know: mentally, or y’know, physically, whatever the case may be -- but there’s always gonna be something out there that, y’know, or someone out there that is going through a worse time than we are. And, uh, I think we owe it to ourselves and we owe it to, y’know, our humanity just to get educated. So, I think you should, um, look into different things yourself, and it doesn’t have to always be news programs, because sometimes they can be biased. There’s plenty of sites out there, like rescue.org or Amnesty International-- just go out there and check it out. Just see for yourself, and come to your own conclusion and hopefully it’s the right conclusion for you and everybody else around you. Just check that out, stuff like that, and hopefully you get a little balance of what’s going on. And how you act on it, and react towards it, it’s really entirely up to you-- I just hope you do the right thing. I’m not gonna- I’m not gonna preach here about what you should and shouldn’t do, I just want you to know and be aware of what’s going on in this world. Thank you for listening to me on that. I hope I wasn’t too preachy. And I’m not trying to be preachy. It’s pretty important, y’know, that we know. And my heart goes out to these people, I mean, I have it easy, y’know, I’ve gotta admit it, and I’m not ashamed about that, it’s just the fact that, y’know, I know there’s a lot of people struggling out there. Y’know and it’s- this- this has been a tough couple years for everybody, right? With the COVID and everything else. It’s just been a tough couple years, and it’s like, okay. When are you gonna let up? When is it gonna let up? So, just y’know, I guess in some way just get yourself educated, understand what’s going on in the world, and y’know take a mental break too, because seriously you need that! We all need that. And hopefully if you’re going through something, whatever it is personally, you have people to talk to and reach out to. And if you don’t have someone personally in your life to do that for you, there is numbers you can call, websites you can visit that put you in reach of somebody that will talk to you, y’know, and be there, and just listen to you. Most cases, that’s enough, and maybe it’s not a perfect situation, but it’s something. And just give it a chance, okay?

Now, I wanna say something. Y’know, I don’t wanna make it, y’know, where I’m just trying to, uh, get you guys down today because that’s not my- my, that’s not my thing, that’s not my- that’s not my plan. I just wanna tell you that, y’know, things do affect us all and, y’know, I don’t wanna ignore it. Ignoring the problem is not gonna help the problem. But maybe this isn’t the platform for it, maybe this is the platform for it! I think it is. So I guess you have to determine that yourself, y’know, yes. You need, definitely need to determine that yourself if this is the platform or not. And if it is, then you’re gonna have a better listening experience with me, and with the other listeners who are deciding that for themselves as we speak.

Okay, so what do you wanna hear today? You wanna hear some Vices Inc, right? Because, like I said before, we didn’t finish listening to Vices Inc. Y’know there’s a couple more songs on that new EP that I want you to hear. I think last week where we, um, listened to “Rolling ‘82,” uh, “(Hold On) Gravitron,” and I believe we listened to “Have 2 Get Started.” Does that sound right to you? Sounds right to me. But there’s a couple more songs I wanna get into. Um, I feel like it’s best if we just, y’know, spin a few songs, be happy, get in a great mood, maybe dance a little bit, maybe not dance a little bit, maybe uh, just pretend we’re dancing a little bit -- whatever it is, I just want you to be happy! That’s my main goal. So listen, I’m gonna let you hear another new song from Vices Inc, and if you like it, great, if you don’t like it, that’s okay too, but either way I’m playing it. This song’s called “Baby, You’re Love:”

[“Baby, You’re Love” by Vices Inc plays]

Wishing for a love that was infallible
Adoration brighter than the sun
Coming at me harder than a wrecking ball
I knew you were the one

Whoa
Baby, you’re my love
Whoa
Baby, you are love

Overcoming every obstacle
Until just you and I remain
I have a love for you that’s animal
It cannot be contained

Whoa
Baby, you’re my love
Whoa
Baby, you are love

We’re destined to be one
Written in the stars above
Just know it’s you I’m wishing on
Baby, you’re love

Now I know we are unbreakable
Until death do us part
You’ve left a mark that is indelible
Right across my heart

Whoa
Baby, you’re my love
Whoa
Baby, you are love

(Love)
(You are love)
(Are love)

JAGGER: Oh, man! Is that good? You know it’s good! You can’t tell me it’s not good, I know what’s good, and that is good. Does that make you happy? Did that make you dance? Did that help you cook your dinner today? Or your lunch, or whatever it is you’re doing right now! Maybe you’re knitting some… a sweater. And you’re just like, “Wow, it’s really hot here, why am I knitting a sweater?” Because winter is gonna come, you’re gonna need that sweater, right!? Alright. Maybe you’re knitting a sweater for a little doggie. Maybe you’re knitting a sweater for a big doggie, a chubby doggie. I like chubby doggies. They need kisses. Doggies need kisses. So if you don’t know this by now, I’m educating you right here: Doggies need kisses. “Bow wow wow, I love kisses!” See? I just- I just heard a doggie say, “Give me a kiss!” And if your dog is looking at you right now and saying, “Hey… what are you listening to?” Say hey, you want a kiss? Because you need a kiss. And your dog is gonna be so happy that you even acknowledged a kiss in the first place!

Alright, so that was “Baby, You’re Love” -- that is the album version, there’s actually two versions for that song, a single version, obviously, which will be out in-- oof-- I believe it’s October? Or maybe September. Actually, September. I don’t know, it’s coming out some time! You ask the band themselves! I don’t know these things. But the difference between the two, one’s a little more on the, I guess, rockier side, and one’s more on the pop side. Either way, they both are really good versions and I’m so happy to play that to you. So, having fun so far? We’re having a great ball, huh? It’s just like, so much fun! It’s almost as much fun as playing Bingo with your grandma. You know that’s great fun, right? You go to the Bingo parlor with your grandma. “B-3.” “Bingo!” You know, and she goes up and grabs her prize, maybe it’s a box of spam -- I don’t know what they give at Bingo parlors, but maybe we should all go to a Bingo parlor sometime! Tell me where you go for a Bingo parlor. Is it in the basement of a church or something like that? Is it, I dunno, is it in a building somewhere where they uh, y’know, the Knights of Columbus or something like that? I dunno, you tell me where it is, maybe I’ll come! Just shoot me a line! I’m all ready for it! I think I’d be pretty good at Bingo. I’m excited about this now.

So let’s play some more music. I mean, why not, right? Let’s play something else from Vices Inc that is, that’s not necessarily on their EP, but it’s part of the EP -- how does that sound? Maybe it’s gonna be in the future version of this EP… hint, hint, hint… Alright, this is one of my favorites, this is definitely out of left field for them. But, what is left field for them? Because, man, if you know anything about Vices Inc, they’re definitely very versatile. They do so much things, so different things, so many options for you to enjoy. But anyways, this is one of them, and this is featuring PrettyBoy JG on vocals too. If you don’t know who that is, you’re gonna find out. Anyways, this is “Planet Rock:”

[“Planet Rock” by Vices Inc plays]

Funny how the mind breaks
Funny how the mind breaks
Funny how the mind breaks you
Listen to what I say
If you just take and take
It will come haunt you

Here we go
Let me tell you a story that I know so well
An itty bitty man with the mind of a pea
Is trying so hard to be the boss of me
Busting out rules like they’re free

I said slow down son, what’s the fuss?
Don’t you know that I don’t give a fudge
Tell me your mindset, I’m in a rush
Your stupid little games make me bust

Money for nothing but the checks are free
Back off now and stay away from me
Tell me more lies ‘til the day you die
What you know now gonna make you cry

Sick of what you’re dealing, it’s a steal
Always trying to pass out a bitter pill
Pull it down now and keep it still
I’m gonna tell you now what is real

Simple-minded man, you’re to blame
Every mistake bears your name
Go away now, stop your stuff
I’m all fired up, I had enough

Funny how now the tables have turned
You got so lost, gonna make you burn
Little did you know that I had control
You’re wasting your time with this dope-dee-dope

Rock, rock, planet rock
Rock, rock, planet rock

Cross me again, it’s a sin
Don’t you try to get back in
I’m much aware of your dare
Stop in your tracks and do a spin

What do you say? You make no sense
Every time you speak it makes me freak
Out of my face and move along
‘Cause everything I said is in this song

Rock, rock, planet rock
(Yeah)
Rock, rock, planet rock
(Uh huh)
Rock, rock, planet rock

Rock, rock, planet rock

JAGGER: See, see, see, see what I’m talking about? I told you that was a little bit different for them, right? I mean, really, they do just about anything, and obviously this is another one - this is another one to add to the list! Amazing, it’s amazing. That is “Planet Rock.” Now obviously, there’s an original version of that that came out in the 80s that’s a little bit different. Vices Inc made it their own which, I love it, I think they did a good job on it and it doesn’t, um, take away from the original, it just adds to it, and that’s all that matters, right? Did you wanna go rollerskating with that? Did you wanna go breakdancing with that? Did you wanna kiss your doggie? Of course you wanna kiss your doggie! Alright? Alright. I hope you’re having a good time so far, ‘cause I’m having a great time!

I just wanna give you a heads up what’s going on and for the next few episodes of this podcast. This weekend, I- I’m gonna have an interview with Vices Inc discussing what’s going on with them with Rolling ‘82, the past, the future, the far future, the alternate universe future-- all that stuff. So please, look out for that podcast. Also, I’m gonna try to do different podcasts where I’m gonna have uh, gaming podcast with a few, uh, we’ll say, semi-expert-y gamers? Um, that utilize YouTube for the gaming, um, channels, and also I’ll have an art podcast. Yes, why not, right? Try different things. So it’s not all gonna be all about music, but though music is a big part of this, and even with those podcasts music’s gonna be part of it too, y’know. Maybe in the background, maybe between interviews-- you’ll see. Just keep it real, that’s what I say, right? Keep it real with the music, keep it real with the straight ahead fun interviews, and the dancing- well, I don’t know if we’re dancing, but we’re kissing puppies, right? I’m stressing that puppy situation out because seriously I think we could be, virtually-- what’s that noise-- we could virtually have world peace if, um, we kiss a puppy. That’s my motto. That’s- I’m gonna stick to that. Eh, might be wrong, might be right, who cares.

Alright, I’m gonna give you another one of these songs from the Vices Inc. This one is another, uh, it’s a winner. Um, and it’s- it’s funny, ‘cause it’s like, one of these songs where we’ve all been in this situation before, right? Uh, y’know, you work all year, work every week, you work every month, and you come home you’re still working with your family, whatever the case may be, and it’s like, you never have time off -- then when you do have time off, you’re still working! You’re still working out on vacation! You’re still working on that holiday, y’know it’s like, wow, I never have rest. I guess, y’know, there’s no rest for the wicked, but also I guess you don’t rest until you die and that’s pretty sad, isn’t it? Well, I hope that’s not a reality, I hope it’s just a joke, but in any case, this song kind of reflects that, um, philosophy I guess you could say, where, y’know, you need a holiday from your holiday! You need a vacation from your vacation just- just to have some kind of break from it all. And hopefully you get to have that. And if you can relate to this song, great, and if you can’t relate to this song, oh, what’s going on? Are you working too hard, or are you not working hard enough? You figure it out. Anyways, this is “A Holiday from My Holiday” by Vices Inc:

[“A Holiday from My Holiday” by Vices Inc plays]

I’ve been dreaming of a holiday
Beneath the swaying palm trees in the warmth
Napping on the beach with drink in hand
Away from everybody that I know
No more waking up at 5 A.M.
To see the sights and always make the most
I’ll be living free without any plans
And just for once vacation won’t be work

A holiday away from my own holiday
That’s what I’ve been craving most
A holiday away from my holiday
That’s where I’m about to go

JAGGER: Okay, okay, that’s “A Holiday from My Holiday” by Vices Inc, that’s part of that Rolling ‘82 EP. Can you relate to it? I’m sure you can. I’m sure all of us can relate to it at some time in our lives. But it’s a great song anyways, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s quite different from everything else you heard on this EP so far. I mean, really, they just, uh, packing it all in there, aren’t they? Great stuff, awesome stuff, and I hope you’re happy to hear it. If you’re into Vices Inc, or into any of the music they do, check ‘em out at www.vicesinc.com or on the YouTube, Vices Inc. On the Facebook, Vices Inc. On the Instagram it’s Vices dot band -- no, sorry ‘bout that, Vices dot INC -- I-N-C -- dot band. Um, also check out their pre-order for the Rolling ‘82, you can get that on iTunes, Amazon, all those things. Please check ‘em out. And if you do like them, reach out to ‘em! Say, “Hey! I like your music! Your music rocks!” or “It makes me dance!” or whatever it does, but just… give it a chance, go out there and- and listen to some more of them. They have, uh, uh, full length album that came out in 2020 called An Everyday Hero which is quite different from the things you just heard, and they also have many, many singles, which has extra songs, which they are called “B-Sides.” Yes, people are like, “What are B-Sides?” Well, Google that, okay, that’s what they do they- they have always an extra song for their singles, which… how much music can you have? Well, they have a lot apparently, and it’s good. That’s great, because they’re definitely not lazy, and they’re definitely not sitting on one album or one song and just milking it out, that’s not what they’re doing. So I hope you enjoyed our show today, I had a great time with you all, it’s been fun, right? It’s been great! And I am looking forward to doing another one this weekend with the band Vices Inc-- you’ve got to listen to that one, okay guys? But I just wanna say hey. I’m happy to have you on this ride with me, hope this ride goes on and on and on and on and on -- and if it doesn’t, oh, who’s fault is that? Sure ain’t my fault. But listen-- are you listening? I hope you’re listening. I had a great time tonight, I hope you did too, and I am looking forward to doing this more often! Oh, by the way, one of the shows we’re gonna do is about comic books-- I’m gonna have someone on who’s gonna talk about that too, forgot all about that show! That’s a good show, huh? So you’ve got four or five show ideas coming your way, so you’ve got to stay tuned to all of them to be able to know what’s going on in the world -- or my world, or the little world, or whatever world I’m in -- I don’t know- I don’t even know if that makes sense, but it makes sense to me.

Alright, here we go! Okay so, this is Jagger Hicks, and...

ATTICUS: This is Atticus.
